By checking on the exterior, interior, appliances, heating, cooling, electrical systems, and plumbing of your home can help prevent catastrophe down the line. That is why it is so important to instill a regiment of annual home maintenance. And we’ve made a checklist to help you out!

Monthly Home Maintenance

  • Remove dust build-up from furnace filters to better regulate temperatures.
  • Remove material deposits from faucets and showerheads for better water pressure.
  • Unclog bath, shower, and sink drains.
  • Test smoke alarms.
  • Vacuum and clean heating vents.
  • Flush water from the water heater to prevent sediment build-up.

Seasonal Upkeep

Depending on where you live, your fall maintenance list might vary.

Fall

  • Rake leaves.
  • Inspect heating systems by a professional.
  • Check the fireplace for damage and clean the chimney to prevent chimney fires.
  • Check windows for cracks and gaps and seal any damage with caulk if necessary.
  • Inspect the roof for missing shingles or possible leaks.
  • Clean gutters.

  • Flush water heater.

Summer

  • Service garage door, chains, and openers.
  • Remove lint from dryer vents.
  • Vacuum refrigerator coils.
  • Check the dishwasher for damage or leaks.
  • Check and seal tile grout.
  • Prune outdoor shrubbery and trees.
