4 Spectacular Scenic Country Roads for a Memorable Ohio Day

Whether the summer sun is shining or the leaves are starting to change, heading down Ohio’s scenic country roads is a great way to spend an afternoon. So grab a friend and let’s get started.

Scenic Country Roads in the Ohio Area

Amish Country Byway

The Amish Country Byway is a beautiful, lazy drive through the sloping hills of quiet Amish country in Ohio. Get off the couch and away from your phone with the sprawling green fields dappled with lush patches of trees.  The formation of the byway has a long history, starting with a glacial slide on the tip of Appalachia and continuing to the ground packed down by migrating bison.

Today, you see the silos, the man-raised barns, and the Clydesdale pulled wagons of a bygone era. Starting in Walnut Creek, the drive will take 33 minutes to Coshocton. The entire Amish Country Byway includes 160 miles of road for plenty of cruising options.

Rabbit Hash

Feeling adventurous? Head south of the border to Kentucky and visit the historic little hollar called Rabbit Hash. Rabbit Hash is a tiny little incorporated community in Boone County, Kentucky and as of the writing of this article, the population is a grand total of 315. Take a trip through the swollen rolls of the open fields in the Bluegrass State.

Visit the General Store, rebuilt after a fire in 2015, and watch the steamboats on the river. The perfect place for an afternoon picnic.

The Covered Bridges Byway (the Ashtabula County covered bridge tour)

Located in the Wayne National Forest of Mariette, Ohio this lush woodland tour takes you through the covered bridges over the Muskingum River along State Route 26.

The road between Mariette and Alledonia is 33 miles and boasts four campgrounds along the way.

Ohio River Scenic Byway

Winding along the Ohio River, this twisting stretch of pavement provides plenty of vistas along the 290 miles of road. Dappled with landmarks from the Underground Railroad to the Shawnee State Park you can take to this road to adventure.

With campgrounds and picnic spots all along this long route, there will be many trips and stops you can make into an entire weekend getaway. From Cincinnati, Ohio to Wheeling.
